Helsingborg, Sweden
Helsingborg, Sweden was our last port before getting back to Copenhagen. It was a short stop and the only stop that we actually went back to the ship early because we felt we had seen everything. Any of you that know us, know we are the first off the and last on, trying to see as much as possible. Our travels are precious to us and we try to not waste any of it. Sweden, to us, feels a lot like our home in Norway...
We did enjoy our walk up through the arches to Kärnan tower (keep). It has guarded the city for over 600 years.
The big building with the Swedish flags on it is not a church, but the town hall.
The pictures from inside a church are from St. Maria Kyrka (St. Mary's - I think there was a St. Mary's church at every single stop on the cruise) :o) They would ask for a blessing for their ships. They would hang a smaller version (although still quite large and elaborate) in the church for the paster and congregation to pray for. This was a Lutheran church. (as with Norway, it is the state religion of Sweden - Anglican Lutheran).
This was the only stop on our cruise that we had to anchor off shore and ride tender boats to the shore. Helsingborg is just a 15 minute ferry ride to Denmark. You could see the bridge connecting the two sister cities of Helsingborg, Sweden and Helsingør, Denmark.
