Rhodes, Greece

We stopped at the Greek isle of Rhodes next. We went and wondered through the streets of the old fortress (which is now laden with shops selling everything under the sun that is remotely Greek). We came across a shop where they sold Turkish rugs and a woman was working on one. That was pretty neat to see. It looks like very monotonous work. However, I cross stitch and that can be the same! :o) We walked around the area just in the port area. The city is called Rhodes and so it the island itself. Tim walked away with a silver Greek eternity ring (which he loves) and a huge metal Spartan helmet. (there's one in every crowd) Amusingly enough, his 12 year old American friend he had made a few days prior bought the very same helmet! Ha! Joe just thinks he's a dork. :o) What are older brothers for, anyways? Joe was saving his money for a cartouche and chain from Egypt.
We went back on board for lunch (the ship was right there and that food was already paid for, so might as well) The boys stayed back on the ship swimming and playing basketball with their friends while Rich, Lily and I took a taxi for 30 minutes to Lindos, another city on Rhodes. This is a more traditional Greek village in the hills but also along the coastline with the white washed houses with red tile rooves and an acropolis at the top of the city. The sun was bright and the water astonishingly blue against the white buildings. The cherry blossoms were blooming and it was just absolutely beautiful. This is the off-season in the Mediterranean so some towns were completely deserted because of the lack of tourists. However, we had the town mostly to ourselves and ate some yummy oranges off the trees. We were able to more thoroughly enjoy the beautiful stone mosaics on the paths to the houses. It was a nice, relaxing afternoon.
